"Triboluminescence"

Gouache, 10"H x 8"W

Triboluminescence is a phenomenon in which light is generated when a material is mechanically pulled apart, ripped, scratched, crushed or rubbed. This piece represents the light generated by people coming together in the face of horrendous experiences.

Watercolor, 14"H x 11"W

This body of work was developed during a major shift in awareness in which my interior reality, flooding with symbols, sought expression through body language as a counterpoint to verbalizing the struggles I was facing at the time.

Using the body as a symbol of power, I could explore my emotional landscape through various contexts.

The pieces were informed by my curiosity of the simultaneous reality of time paired with the intrinsic meanings we associate with certain movements of our corporeal image.
