"Unfurled"

Copper Sculpture

In this body of work, I explored themes of creative survival in the face of barriers, internal and external.

Inspired by metaphysical concepts of symbols informing our experience, the forms have layers to their expression of meaning.

The process of creating this sculpture was deliberately executed without a plan but by simply allowing the form to unfold as the pieces organically lay during the joining of the components.

The rhythm and spontaneous energy naturally became reflected in the piece, with subtle guidance to encourage a form while still eliciting a sense of freedom.

"Flight"

Copper Sculpture

The first sculpture in the series was created using the simplest measure of the material, defining a starting place for the body of work as an expression of the theme in its base form.

Shaved charcoal from the block used to weld the piece accompanies its base, signifying a figurative 'rising from the ashes' against the abstract narrative of the piece.
